Balancing Knives and Mirrors and Light and Dark with Harmony
Greetings, dear Soul. Today, Monday the 22nd is the not only the Eighth Tonal of the 18th Nagual, which best translates to Harmonizing Obsidian Mirror/Knife but it is also the September Equinox. (I have stopped calling them Spring or Fall (or Autumnal or Vernal) Equinox, for, if you use ONE of those terms, you are wrong. It is both. Every time.)
Our Mother Earth is perfectly balanced in her spin around our Father Sun today, balanced light and darkness, balanced day and night, balanced male and female, one could add. Incidentally, the most famous of all Mayan Pyramids, that of Kukulkan at Chichen Itza, exhibits that most incredibly precise construction in alignment with Goddess Gaia and K’ eenich Ahau, the Sun God both today, and every other Equinox. Guaranteed there is a massive ceremony there today…
Today is also Tone 8. This is the number one most favorite day of all Mayan Shaman, Priests, Priestesses, Kings, Queens, and everyone else for ceremonies and rituals, both private and public. Why? Because the qualities of this Tone facilitate this presence of mind that no other Tone can quite provide, and I can promise you that there are countless ceremonies happening all over the Mayan world today.
What kind? Etznab kind. Tihash types. Obsidian Mirror/Knife varieties, and that means healing. That means precision. Eloquence. That means cutting cords with that which no longer serves your spiritual development.
Today is therefore a superb day to get married! As my dear friend Stacy is doing to her beloved, Chuck, and it was their combined charts that I spent about 6 hours doing yesterday. Lastly, it is my soon-to-be-20-year-old daughter Maya’s Mayan birthday too, so I will be writing from experience today. Here are all their Key Code Words:
Obviously, K’een 138 is not a soft day-sign. It doesn’t soothe or seduce—it pierces, sparks, and shines. Tone 8 builds the temple of finding fairness, the ritual chamber where everything is viewed through the infinite scales of justice. And then the Obsidian Mirror arrives, blade in hand, ready to peirce the veil, to separate truth from illusion, to carve wholeness out of false fractures.
There is beauty here, but it is the beauty of precision, of light reflected in a sharp edge. More like awe. Just look at that Glyhph! As always, the Shadow Ego lurks close by: crime and slander, disruptiveness and acquiescence, the double-cross, the lashing tongue, the judgment that cuts deeper than it should. To live under this energy is to forever balance mercy with incision, patterns that perhaps were woven into the lives of George Harrison, Meghan Markle, Angela Merkel, Eleanor Roosevelt & my personal favorite, Ronna Vezane. And let’s remember our secret phrase of Tone 8 days: By any means necessary.
George Harrison carried this Harmonizing Mirror/Knife like a hidden weapon. Among the Beatles, he was “the quiet one,” but his silence was not emptiness—it was the soundless pause before a blade slices through. His spiritual hunger was ritual itself: chanting mantras, studying with sitar masters, kneeling before the universal truths of Hinduism. He opened the Milky Way of music, letting Indian ragas pour into Western ears like offerings on a sacred altar. Personally, I believe George to be the most spiritual of the Beatles, the least attached to the vagaries and vicissitudes of this awkward 3D matrix. (He probably did the most LSD, too…) That’s why he was the first to leave…
Yet even for this ethereal being, the Shadow Ego showed up. He grew bitter at Lennon and McCartney’s dominance, sometimes lashing out with sharp words, other times slipping into aloof withdrawal. Slander haunted him too, the press questioning his piety, mocking his seriousness. But Harrison’s gift was to turn even resentment into melody. All Things Must Pass was his great cord-cutting—severing ties with band and ego alike, revealing prophecy in the form of song. His knife did not wound for cruelty’s sake; it deftly carved his path to the Infinite.
Meghan Markle strode directly into arguably the most ritual-bound chamber of Western society: the British monarchy, a theater of crowns and knives hidden beneath silk sheets and velvet curtains. As an actress and lawyer-in-training, she already knew the art of story, and the rules of negotiation. But once she married into the House of Windsor, she became Flint incarnate: a blade, and mirror, demanding fairness in a realm that thrived on acquiescence and division.
The tabloids poked, stabbed, and slashed at her with bitter force—slander upon slander, lie upon lie (and probably lots of truth), painting her as disruptive, accusing her of crimes against tradition. Where a quieter spirit might have bowed and submitted, Meghan cut the cords instead, her inner Mirror intact and unsmeared.
She walked away from the gilded cage, choosing the resonance of self-truth over ritual obedience. Whether adored as a truth-teller or condemned as a disrupter, she plays out the cosmic drama of Vaxaq’ Etznab exactly: harmony forged not by silence, but by daring to cut by any means necessary.
Angela Merkel, by contrast, wielded her blade like a surgeon. No flourish, no theater, just steady incisions with careful precision. As Chancellor of Germany from 2005 to 2021, she was the longest-serving leader of the European Union. She became the negotiator of a continent, mediating between East and West, debt and austerity, chaos and union. She did not bend.
To the public eye, she often seemed tranquil, unimpeachably calm—a Mirror polished to stillness. Yet here, too, the Shadow Ego crept in. She was accused of acquiescing too long before crises, of letting disruptiveness swell before she acted, of hiding judgments in quiet backroom maneuvers. But this was Merkel’s Obsidian gift: she harmonized not by slashing wildly, but by trimming patiently, legally, astutely, regenerating a frayed Europe thread by thread. Her scalpel held a continent together, her ritual was the long negotiation, her legacy the quiet wholeness carved from fracture.
Eleanor Roosevelt sparked her knife like a torch. Where others saw the First Lady as ornamental, she stepped forward as prophecy embodied. Her speeches were Flint—eloquent, impeccable, astute, cutting through pretense to reveal the universal truth of human dignity.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights became her ritual blade: eternal fairness inscribed into the law of nations (on paper, at least…). And yet, she too was shadowed by slander. Critics mocked her looks, her voice, her independence; rumors sought to stain her character. She lived under constant judgment, accused of disruptiveness, also slashed at by the press. But Eleanor’s response was mercy, not revenge. She used the very wounds inflicted on her as proof of the world’s need for change. Her Knife severed the old script of passive womanhood and carved out a place where human wholeness could finally breathe.
Ronna Vezane carried this energy in a different octave. Her blade was not political or personal, but cosmic. In fact, it was Archangel Michael’s Sword of Truth! Through her transmissions of his teachings, she channeled prophecy, weaving rituals of meditation and cord-cutting for seekers hungry to shed karmic weight. She offers tools of eloquence and precision, speaking truths with the sharpness of Obsidian. I’ve done her Arch Angel Michael’s Sword of Truth Mediation, and I now carry his blade inside my spine.
Yet Shadows gathered around this mystic woman, too: accusations of slander, the judgment of skeptics, the spark of disruptiveness within mainstream culture. To some, she seemed to acquiesce to fantasy; to others, she cuts directly into the marrow of illusion. Like all who bear the Knife, her work is double-edged: It wounds those unwilling to face themselves, while healing those ready to embrace the Infinite.
If it pleases thee, please watch this video I made about her, with her blessings of course, and you might want to read her comment on it, made less than 18 months before she left her body behind at the age of 96 just a six months ago:
Each of these lives reminds us that harmony is not just softness. Sure, there’s many other Glyphs that when paired with Tone 8 become smooth and rounded, but not today. It is the ritual balance born from incision, the tranquility that follows disruption, the fairness that only emerges when lies are sliced away. K’een 138 holds the Mirror steady, asking us to look—and if we flinch, the Knife cuts deeper into our illusion. Mercy, prophecy, eloquence, judgment: all are part of the same blade. Today’s exemplars show us that to harmonize the world, we must sometimes endure the cut. Now let’s look at their Guides:
Imagine having Cosmic Consciousness of Love and Loyalty as your foundation! Transcending Dog. Who’s a good boy? And imagine if you KNEW about it when you were growing up, eh? Keep in mind that all of the traditionalist Maya are aware of the four Guides for each person, for milennia, and would have raised their children accordingly. This energy here would lend such an important set of building blocks with which to cut cords later in life…
Moving down and across thru the Heart Chakra and out the left hand we have Tone 1, and that’s a lot of force. It’s the start of the next Pulse-Wave, and if you’ll recall all the way back to yesterday when I showed you this one, we are in the Monkey Trecena right now, meaning the next time Monkey appears it will be Tone 8… 8 B’atz. 8 Monkey, the day of highest celebration of the very Tzolk’ een itself in most of Guatemala… But more about that later. Back to Initiating Seed. This is a powerful day of networking, planting and gathering information, not the least of which is of a sexual nature.
Pairing Traveler is probably the very best companion for the journey of life one could wish for, a happy camper tuned to the Sacral Chakra. This energetic profile of the Divine Masculine Guide could also be used to divide and conquer, however, getting stuck in duality and the (fake) battle between good and evil that stumps so many a poor human.
And finally the Future is Guided by Activating Reincarnation.
All Etznab K’ een have Death and Rebirth as their FVG, don’tcha know?!?! Mos def why the Knife is used without fear in the best of cases, and when you combine that with Tone 3, with its focus on femininity and the kitchen and communicaiton and humor, we’ve got an interesting twist to the way Harmonizing Obisidian Mirror/Knife plays out its movie of life. All things are possible. As they are for every K’ een…
So, dear Soul, I hope you take a few moments to put your bare feet on the ground today, arms outstretched, and conduct a ceremony of your own. Feel the balance. Know the value of cutting cords, but more importantly, know that you can only successfully do so with love and gratitude. If you slash at those emotional ties with anger, your wound grows deeper.
Here’s a playful ritual poem that just might be said in some Mayan lands today:
Great Heart of Sky, Great Heart of Earth,
We rise together to thank you for our birth.
Tezcatlipoca, the Smoking Mirror,
Cut away the shadows, make the truth clear.
Flint of fire, Obsidian spbright,
Slice through the darkness, bring in the light.
Tone Eight, the balanced ritual flame,
Justice returning, we speak your name.
Knife of mercy, Mirror of grace,
Heal our hearts, reveal our face.
Where slander has stung, let cords be cut,
Where crime has struck, let peace be born.
Oh ancestors, Oh stars that gleam,
We walk the spiral, we weave the dream.
With Tones One, two, and three — the circle begins,
four, five, six — forgiveness within.
Seven, eight — the mirror of fate,
Truth and harmony radiate.
Tones Nine, Ten, Eleven,
Twelve and Thirteen,
The Circle draws to a close,
Always to be reborn again.
Oh sacred Heart of Celestial Sky,
O holy Heart of Obsidian Stone,
We are many, yet we are One.
Do you know what it means?
Een Lak’esh, Ala K’ een.
